Orthodontic Dentistry

Orthodontics deals with bite problems. Typically these are due to teeth not lining up correctly. Of course, this also greatly affects one’s smile and the whole look of one’s face. Correction is done as much for appearance (cosmetic dentistry) as for health reasons.

While Orthodontists specialize in these issues, many general dentists also offer orthodontic treatment and may used advanced equipment and methods.

Typically done during a patient’s childhood, orthodontics for adults has become more and more common. A full course of treatment can take one year or longer.

Traditional braces and retainers are still used, however, newer technologies allow for much less intrusive corrective appliances (“invisible braces”), as well as possibly accomplishing full correction in a shorter period of time.

Once treatment is completed, periodic wearing of retainers may be recommended to ensure teeth remain properly aligned.
